Mombasa Old Town

Mombasa Old Town is the lane district beside Fort Jesus: coral-rag houses, carved doors, and mosques including Mandhry Mosque. A guided walk takes 60 to 90 minutes and stays in daylight. Mosque entry depends on the mosque.

How a visit works

The walk starts after the fort, while the guide still has the harbour story in mind. Doors and street fronts carry more of the visit than any single museum room. Mandhry Mosque is a landmark. The street view is the default. Cover shoulders and knees anyway. The clothing note is what to wear.

Old Town does not have a Fort Jesus ticket of its own for walking the lanes. The fort ticket is only for the fort. The combined tour is Old Town and Fort Jesus. We do not schedule this walk after dark.
