Best time to visit Mombasa
Mombasa is warm in every month, and the sea is warm enough to swim. Drier weather is more typical in January to March and July to October. Heavier rain is more typical in April, May, and November. Fort Jesus is outdoors, so mornings are the easier hour.
Seasons, stated as a pattern
The coast does not have a closed season for Fort Jesus, Old Town, or Haller Park. Rain is the variable. January, February, March, July, August, September, and October are more often dry. April, May, and November are more often wet. A wet morning does not cancel a fort visit. It does make the ramparts slick and the Old Town lanes slower. A marine park boat is the stop most likely to move when the sea is rough.
Time of day
Book the fort for the morning, close to the 8:30 opening, in the hotter months. Leave Haller Park for later, when the tree cover helps. Ramadan changes daytime opening at some Old Town restaurants. The fort follows the museum calendar, not the fast. If your dates fall in Ramadan and you want a particular restaurant, say so in the chat.
Cruise calls and flight times override the season. Use tour duration to see what still fits.
Questions
What is the best month for a Mombasa city tour?
Any month works. January to March and July to October are typically drier. April, May, and November are typically wetter.
Does rain close Fort Jesus?
The museum sets its own hours. Rain makes the ramparts slippery. Ask on the morning if a storm is already over the island.
Is the sea swimmable all year?
Yes. The water stays warm. Rough sea is what moves a boat day, not a cold season.
